Please visit our website at www.sandia.gov. We are searching for Nanophotonics Scientists for the Advanced Materials Sciences Department at the Albuquerque facility. The salary is commensurate. A benefit and relocation package is available. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance. This position requires a scientist with experience in solid state physics with an emphasis on semiconductor nanophotonics with knowledge of the basic physics associated with 2D and 3D photonic band gap structures. Must have a broad background in the design, fabrication, and testing of submicron periodic dielectric and metallic structures with incorporated waveguides and cavities. A working understanding of photonic band structure and photonic density of states calculations is highly desirable. Direct experience with nanofabrication patterning techniques such as electron beam, nano-imprint, and/or interferometric lithography is also desirable. Experience with standard clean room semiconductor processing techniques including diagnostic tools will also be useful. Knowledge and interest in answering the basic physics questions relevant to strong light-matter interactions in high Q photonic crystal cavities is desired. Should have some experience with optical testing methods such as edge-coupled transmission measurements, micro photoluminescence, time-resolved optical measurements, and angle dependent transmission and reflection measurements. Promote research through journal publications, conference presentations, and internal forums. Prepare research proposals and pursue funding in this area through a variety of internal and external sources.
